Adams County Red Cross recently received a van that
will allow then to aid fire victims even more than they already do.
An Emergency Response Van was recently donated to the
Adams County chapter from the York County Red Cross and was dedicated
Saturday morning on the Lincoln Square in Gettysburg.
The Van is equipped with a coffee maker, small burners
for cooking, refrigerator, 4400 watt generator, 30 gallon water tank, and a
waste water tank.
“This gives us the ability to help with fires and other
disasters,” said Matt Sheads, chair of Adams County Red Cross.
The van can store enough food to feed 100 people, and
can also be used as a mobile office to help disaster victims fill out
necessary paper work.
“We are not out to replace the fire company auxiliary,”
said spokeswoman Bev Parsons. “We are out there if they do not have an
auxiliary or if they don’t have it up and running yet.”
The Red Cross responds to an average of 15 fires a year
in the county, and in February they responded to four fires in one week.
“I am very proud of this van. It is going to come in
handy helping out firefighters. It also will take our services up another
level,” said Sheads.
